AI Connections let you link an AI assistant like Claude or ChatGPT directly to your Givebutter account. Once connected, you can ask questions about your data in plain language and the assistant answers using your live contacts, transactions, campaigns, and more. This works through the Model Context Protocol (MCP), an open standard for connecting AI assistants to external data. Givebutter hosts a secure, OAuth-authenticated MCP server, so there is nothing to install or run yourself.
AI Connections are in beta. Features, available data, and the tools your assistant can use may change. Access is also limited right now: if you don’t see the option to connect or your authorization is rejected, your account hasn’t been enabled yet. Reach out to Givebutter support to request access.

The data you can ask about and the kinds of questions that work best.

Available tools

What you can ask

Once connected, you can ask your assistant questions like:
  • “How much did we raise in the last 30 days?”
  • “Show me my top 10 recurring donors this year.”
  • “How many new contacts did we add last month?”
  • “What was our total revenue from the spring auction?”
  • “Break down donations by campaign for Q1.”
  • “Find contacts in California who gave more than $500.”
The assistant translates your question into a query against your account, runs it, and answers with real numbers.

What’s protected

Read-only

Connections can only read your data. They can never create, edit, or delete anything in your account.

One account per connection

Each connection is scoped to a single Givebutter account that you choose when you sign in.

You stay in control

You approve the connection yourself when you sign in, and you can disconnect it anytime from your assistant’s settings.

How it works

When you add the connection in your AI assistant, you’ll be sent to Givebutter to sign in and pick an account. Your assistant receives a secure token scoped to that one account and uses it to read data on your behalf. The whole flow uses standard OAuth, so your Givebutter password is never shared with the assistant. The connection endpoint is:
